Marketing Your Community

In order to improve local economies, cities will often try to attract one of two markets:
  • Visitors:  tourists, business visitors, shoppers
  • Business and industry:  corporate headquarters, heavy industry, “clean” industry, entrepreneurs

As a leader in your community, which of the above markets will you try to attract to Hoover?  Why?

  1. If I wanted to lure a market into Hoover, I would try to lure entrepreneurs. The reason I would try to get entrepreneurs to come to Hoover is because most of all, Hover is a retail savvy community. The entire city of Hoover revolves around retailing. We basically have every big retail store that is ever needed by anyone such as: Walmart, Target, Publix, as well as the Galleria Mall. We have restaurants galore including: Chick-Fil-A, Logan’s, IHOP, Zaxby’s, etc. Coming to a city with people who are retail oriented, they are just waiting for the next new thing to come out and buy it off of the market. If they are looking to move their family along with them, the schools are second to none. The Hoover City graduation rate is 90%, which is more than the state average of 72%. Hoover City is named among the “Best School Districts in Alabama”, and “Best Places to Teach in Alabama”. The city itself is named one of “America’s 50 Best Cities to Live” and named “Alabama’s Best City”. Hoover is a very patronizing city, so if you come with the right idea, you’ll be highly rewarded.

  2. If I could attract one group of people to come to Hoover it would be tourist, specifically shoppers. One reason I would say why it would be a great place to come is the Galleria Mall. The mall is a great place to shop and has over 200 stores available for you to shop in. There are all different type of clothing stores, electronic stores, and restaurants. There are also many places to shop in the Patton Creek Shopping Center. If you are a male shopper and you like the outdoors, a new Field & Stream just opened up in Hoover. So if you ae an active shopper, everything you need will be available to you in Hoover.

  3. I would like to attract any families looking for a new place to move to. Statistics say that 84,126 out of 4,833,722 people that are living in Alabama happen to live in Hoover. There are many reasons to come live in Hoover. We have a wonderful Football program. We have won our THIRD straight state championship in 2014. Hoover Bucs has been named one of the top ten high school football programs in America. Besides football we also have a great school system. There are plenty of schools to pick from in Hoover. When it comes to moving and new schools you would want to make sure that the community is safe. Rest aside we have had two thousand crimes out of the 17 thousand that happen in Birmingham. Aside from schools and safety, Hoover also has many fun activities to do for the whole family. We have a family-friendly event called Hoover Day. There are many attractions on Hoover Day, for example there is an area where the kids play and it is called Kids Zone. The Hoover community helps bring the community together and have fun all together.

  4. As a leader in my community, I would try to attract shoppers in the visitors market. My reasoning as to why I chose this is the community of Hoover has so many different options to provide shoppers. One example of this would be the Patton creek shopping center. Inside this shopping center you are provided with all kinds of restaurants such as Panera Bread, stores such as Barnes n noble, haircut places such as sport clips etc… Another example that is probably one of the biggest in Hoover is the Riverchase Galleria. The Galleria is a large, up-scale shopping mall that is the 43rd largest shopping mall in the United States. It also has over 200 different stores inside it not even including the restaurants! These are all good examples as to why I would try to attract shoppers to our great community of Hoover.

  5. I would try to attract shoppers and entrepreneurs. In Hoover we have The Riverchase Galleria, which is a huge mall with over 200 stores and offers an amazing experience for shoppers. Right across the street is Patton Creek that also has many retail stores, yummy restaurants, and a movie theater. Entrepreneurs would also be well received in Hoover with easy access to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport just a few minutes down the road. Also, in Hoover there is a very low business operational tax compared to surrounding areas, and a nonexistent city occupational tax. Hoover City Schools are also exceptional with the two high schools earning almost $55 million in scholarship money in 2013. Hoover is an outstanding town with outstanding people with just over 84,000 residents and would be well receptive to both shoppers and entrepreneurs.

  6. Me as the leader of my community I would try to attract entrepreneurs because if you are an entrepreneur a great place to start up your business is in Hoover because of its amazing school systems, location of Hoover, and the cost of living.
One of the reasons an entrepreneur should start their own business in Hoover is because of the school systems they have. All of the schools in Hoover have exceptionally well teachers and the students get great opportunities. Two of the students from Hoovers public High Schools were both offered a 55 million dollar scholarship in 2013. Another reason someone should start a business in Hoover is the location of Hoover. Hoover is centralized and has easy access to the Airport and centrally located at the crossroad of I-459 and I-65. Also in Hoover the crime rate compared to Birmingham is only 15%. So the entrepreneurs business will be more safe than if they were starting it in Birmingham. Hoover has an exceptional cost of living and how amazing the communities are in Hoover. With the Cost of living and the free parking included in the city that would lower the expenses for your family and the people you work with in your company. And finally in Hoover the business tax is much lower compared to surrounding areas and states around Alabama like Georgia and Florida. These are my reasons on why entrepreneurs should start up their business in Hoover.

  7. As a leader in my community, I would try to attract visitors – specifically shoppers – to Hoover. Our city is a great place for people who love to shop because Hoover’s main economic activity is retail. With the Galleria mall being one of the 25 largest shopping malls in the United States, there are many stores to choose from. In fact, the Galleria has over 200 stores. In addition to the mall, there are an abundant amount of stores scattered all about the city of Hoover. One shopping center, The Grove, has many popular stores including Target, Kohl’s, and Marshall’s. New stores are being built in The Grove constantly. For example, a Chick Fil A is in the process of being built currently and will be open in the near future. Almost any item you may need or want can be found in a store in Hoover. If anyone is looking for a fun place to explore and shop, the city of Hoover is just what they are looking for.

  8. If I was going to attract people to Hoover I would want them to bring in revenue. I think I would bring people with good paying jobs that would help bring more money to Hoover shopping centers. Another thing is I want to attract people without kids so the schools won’t get any more over populated. Tourists and Shoppers would also bring a good idea to try to get to come here. One way you could get shoppers and tourist to come here is you could tell them good things about our shopping centers. For example you could tell them about the Riverchase Galleria. The Galleria is the 44th biggest shopping mall in the U.S. and I think that will attract many shoppers and tourists. People with no criminal record would make me feel a lot safer in Hoover. Hoover is pretty good about crime even though it is rising; Hoover has only a 15% crime rate compared to Birmingham. I would like for that number to stay that way or even lower that number.

  9. I would try to attract entrepreneurs to Hoover, Alabama. Our main economic activity in Hoover is retail. There are so many stores here. The Galleria is one of the top 25 regional shopping malls in the United States with over 200 stores. We only have 15% of the crime rate Birmingham has. Our school system has been name among Best School Districts in Alabama and Best Places to Teach in Alabama.. It is centrally located. Anything you may need is in the city of Hoover or in another one close by including airports and health care. There is hardly ever snow and if so not a great amount. Because of this we hardly lose any business days due to snow. Also there are no earthquakes here. These are the many reasons why Hoover, Alabama has been named one of America’s 50 Best Cities to Live In and Alabama’s best city.

  11. In order to attract all types of Shoppers, Tourists, and Business Visitor to the city of Hoover what would you need to do? You would want to point out all the reasons Hoover would be a great place for people who fall into this category, right? That is exactly what I am going to do, I am going to give you cold, hard, facts about why hoover would be a great place for nearly any of the people who fall into the categories given. First off, for all the tourists, there is a variety of attractions in the city of Hoover, from recreational activities such as fishing, hiking, and rock climbing; to something as simple as going to see a movie or eating in one of many outstanding local restaurants . One of the more popular things in hoover is the Riverchase Galleria, The Riverchase Galleria is filled with 200+ different stores and restaurants, ranging from SEARS to Von Maur and McDonalds to J. Alexanders, It even has many outparcel stores! The best part about The Riverchase Galleria is you can spend your day in one place without driving all over town and can also easily access Highway 150 for a quick way to get to where you’re going, but why would you need to do that when the Galleria is right across the street from some of the nicest hotels in hoover? You don’t need to! Nearly anything and everything you need can be found within the city limits, but hoovers location is also a plus, it is surrounded by other great cities like bimingham, Vestavia, and Homewood with many more attractions to look into. These are only a few of the reason Hoover would be a magnificent place to stay for a little while or a lifetime, the the other attractions and activities I’ll leave for you to find out!

  12. I want to try and attract shoppers to Hoover because they would be easy to attract and we have a lot of business for them. One of our main types of business in our community is retail which is good for attracting a lot of shoppers. We also have a lot of plazas and stores that are close together which makes it easier to get what they need without having to go all over the place. While they are shopping at our stores if they get hungry we have a variety of restaurants to choose from. From sit down, fine dining to speedy drive troughs we have it all. River chase Galleria is a great place for shoppers to come in get what they need and even have lunch when they are done. The Galleria the 43rd largest mall in America and has over 20 restaurants and at least 155 retail stores from clothing to camping gear. After your finished shopping all day you can have a stay at the beautiful Wynfrey hotel that includes 330 rooms and a Shula’s Bar and Grill. If that’s not enough we also have Patton Creek Shopping Center that includes Dicks Sporting Goods, D.S.W, Barnes and Noble, and a mix of restaurants and boutiques to choose from. It also includes a Carmike movie theater which you can go to after a long day of shopping. If you are from out of town and spent all day shopping you don’t worry about not having a place to stay for the night because we have over 20 hotels to choose from.

  13. In order to improve local economies I would try to attract a “clean” industry. I would also try to attract shoppers. I would try to bring in more “clean” industries because we need someone in the community that will better our community, and work hard every day to keep it clean. My goal would be to appeal to shoppers because here in Hoover we have one of the 25th largest malls in the country. Although we have petty crimes in the city of Hoover, it is nothing compared to Birmingham’s. The Hoover crime rate is 180, and the Birmingham crime rate is 730. That is about only 24%! If you were to move to Hoover you would be in a convenient location. It is about 20-30 minutes away from the Birmingham-Shuttles worth International Airport, and only about 10 minutes from Downtown Birmingham. If you are looking to move, coming to Hoover would definitely be a smart choice!

  14. If I wanted to attract people to Hoover, I would attract tourist. Hoover has so many stores it’s outrageous. First of all we have the Riverchase Galleria, the 43rd largest and in the top 25 nicest malls mall in the United States, with a variety of over 200 stores. There are many different restaurants around and in the mall including Bonefish Grill, Stix, California Pizza Kitchen, Olive Garden, Chick-Fil-A, Sumos, etc. After shopping and eating, it’s time to go out on the town. One of our most popular attractions would have to be at the Hoover Met. Baseball games, football games, and races all take place at the Met so no matter what time of year we have visitors may be in town; there will always be something to do. After a night of fun, tourist can find a place to stay the night in one of our 12 hotels, all under five miles away from the met!

  15. Taking the role of a leader in my community, I would try to attract small business entrepreneurs into Hoover. The reason behind this is Hoover is definitely an up and coming city. From a good location, to a great school system, Hoover has it all. Hoover is just outside of Birmingham, which is also reaching new heights and popularity. This gives Hoover a great location, as it is a few minutes away from Downtown Birmingham which provides an extensive number of restaurants and attractions with a modern twist. Hoover is also right down the road from the Children’s Hospital, UAB Hospital, as well as the Brookwood Hospital. Not only that, but we have built a new free standing ER, called UAB Medical West. Hoover also has a low crime rate, ranking 20% safer than Birmingham with about 14,339 less crimes this year. We have also made the #8 position on the lowest living costs in the USA, which is a big deal. Lastly, Hoover, Alabama has one of the best schooling systems in Alabama. Hoovers high school students earned over $55 million in scholarship money in 2013. All of these reasons tie into small business entrepreneurs, as it is a good location to start a business, especially while businesses keep doing better and better. The low crime rates provide extra relief and security to the families of Hoover. Also, the low living costs, and great schooling systems provide a nice way to settle down easily and give the entrepreneur confidence that their child or children will receive a good education.

  16. In order to attract more visitors, tourist, business and shoppers to Hoover out of all our exciting attractions I would definitely bringing up the Galleria Mall. The Galleria is filled with over 200 of your favorite stores to shop and eat at and it’s also in the top 50 rankings of good malls in the nation. The Galleria contains things for kids such as a Carousel (which was just renovated), as well an awesome store named Bumper Nets. If you’re not so much a fan of shopping, we also have a nice Metropolitan Stadium where different sporting activities are held such as the SEC baseball tournament and if you’re a fan of football you can catch the local home Hoover High School football games on Friday nights. If you’re ever looking to catch a movie on a Friday night Hoover has a movie theater, The Carmike, right in Patton Creek (another shopping center) where you can catch any movie available. Aside from all of the recreation activities Hoover has one of the top Schools in Alabama and Nationally for their outstanding football team.

  17. In the future, I will try to attract as many businesses and industries as possible. The reason as to why I would attract this particular market would be because of sales. I feel that if I attract corporate headquarters, heavy industry, entrepreneurs, etc., then Hoover would attract even more people because of the new stores that entrepreneurs would create. Hoover contains free parking, outdoor recreation, low costs of living, outstanding medical facilities, low business operational taxes, solid workforce, real estate value, no city occupational tax, convenient location and not to mention our astounding school system! Hoover has so many reasons as to why people should want to do business in Hoover. Also, doing business in Hoover is convenient for travel considering Hoover is 10 minutes from mid-town Birmingham, which is not too far from the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. As mentioned, the exceptional school system that Hoover has is outstanding. Here in Hoover, academics are our main priority. The Hoover City School System is one of the highest-ranked school systems in Alabama! Hoover city schools provide astonishing technology devices, such as the Dell Chromebook, in order to assure that the children of Hoover City Schools are successful and provided with internet access. Unlike most cities, Hoover is ranked among the lowest cost of living in the nation. Creating businesses in Hoover would be an amazing choice bearing in mind our top 10 reasons as to why market in Hoover. If you choose to market in Hoover, you surely won’t regret it!

  18. What Hoover really needs and should be striving for is more business entrepreneurs. There are many perks attracting these kinds of people. For one, we have such great schools here in Hoover (Ranked Top 5 by 2015 Niche in “Alabama’s Best School Districts”) that they bring their whole families and buy homes. Their kids will buy retail and many of them will choose to have their own families here in Hoover which means they’ll be spending their money here forever. Also entrepreneurs create jobs which will bring even more residential growth and capital into the city. There is no doubt we need more entrepreneurs in Hoover.

  19. As a leader in my community of Hoover, Alabama I would try to attract visitors, such as business visitors and shoppers to improve the local economics. Rooting towards the shoppers there are plenty of stores to shop from here in the city, you will never have to shop anywhere else. Most of the retailing stores are in the same area, so you don’t have to worry about driving all over the place to find a store. Although there are over five different shopping centers in Hoover, there is also the one of the biggest shopaholic deathtraps known to be which is Riverchase Galleria Mall. It is said to be that Riverchase Galleria is the 25th biggest mall in the US. Just wait though because it only gets better. Not only does Hoover have every store you can think of to shop in, but there’s also plenty of luxury four to five star hotels here for the people on business trips. When you come to Hoover on a business trip you don’t have to just work, you can also visit our Carmike Cinema to just sit back and kick your feet up to watch some of the newest movies on the market. Or maybe you would just like to kick off your shoes and relax to a nice massage; well you better believe it because Hoover most defiantly has a place just for it. We have places that do deluxe spas, waxing, threading, pedicures, manicures, and back messages, such as: Luxury European Spa, Moon's Day Spa, Sapphire Nail Spa and plenty more of your choice. Always remember when you come to Hoover you may run out of time, but never will you run out of options.

  20. The Visitors market would most profit the city of Hoover. Hoover being home to one of the most prestigious shopping centers in the world is the main reason. The Galleria Mall is such a nice place that it has earned the recognition of being one of the top 50 malls in the United States. People from all around come to indulge in its luxuries. This only helps the city’s economy and status. And with Hoover being such an elegant place to visit and such a location apex it’s a nice place to relax before going off to one of the major events in Alabama. Also having a premier school like Hoover High whose athletic program is nation known, brings in many spectators. It’s also nice that we have plenty of hotels around to shelter all of the people. Also, having a Business and industry community just wouldn’t be helpful to the city. Hoover is a small place and having a large profiting industry literally wouldn’t fit. There is nowhere to put it. For those reason I believe that a visitors market would be most profitable.

  21. Hoover is a great place to visit. More tourists should come every year to Hoover, Alabama, there are many great attractions. One of them would be the Galleria mall, which contains over 200 stores, and to this day is the 25th largest mall in America. The Galleria is a great place for shopping and also a hangout. Aldridge Gardens is also one of Hoover’s great attractions. Not only can you look at the flowers and admire the artwork, but there’s something for everyone. There are educational programs for children and adults, summer camp and even an Aldridge travel club! It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors and try new things. Hoover has a low crime rate, only 15% of what Birmingham has, which is a major difference. Moss Rock preserve is probably my favorite attraction in Hoover. It’s a great place for rock climbing, hiking, taking pictures, and has beautiful waterfalls. These are just some of the amazing places to visit in Hoover, and I hope to see you soon!

  22. As a leader in my community, I would focus on attracting the visitors of Hoover. The reason why is because, the city of Hoover would make a major profit. It wouldn’t be hard to get them to want to come to Hoover, due to the many activates and places go. I would go into detail about how our mall (The Galleria) is one of the top 25 places to shop in the country. I would also include the hundreds of amazing places to eat in Hoover (mainly the city favorites/high end restaurants). Include the high end golf courses and hotels such as, (The Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa), and the (Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail) and (Hyatt Regency). I would also mention the shopping center in Patton Creek, including all the restaurants, movie theater, and stores, (due to Patton Creek being one of the social hotspots). Lastly I would explain the top of the line schools that Hoover has to offer, such as the elementary, middle, and high schools, located throughout Hoover.
